"Nutrition for mothers-to-be. What medical doctors neglect to tell you."

There are thrills of motherhood which you will have aside from your baby. You will enjoy your own self confidence, knowing that you are going to be a good mother to this child. You will enjoy the vigor of your own strong body, driving you to fulfill the baby's needs. You will experience the fun of "playing dolls" all over again. You will enjoy rocking your baby, singing to him lullabies, and talking to him in a language he probably understands far better than we realize. You will be thankful that what was once called spoiling a baby is now known to give him a feeling of security which can last his entire lifetime.

NUTRITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

*Vitamin A (good skin, clear vision, mucus control, eases bowl movement) Green vegetables: spinach, parsley, cress, broccoli, lettuce, carrots. Fruits: Apricots, cantaloupe, peaches, prunes, sunflower seeds, cheese.

*B-Complex (Digestion, nervous system, heart) Wheat germ, brown rice, milk, yogurt, liver, leafy vegetables, fruits, and nuts.

*Brewer's Yeast (For healthy hair)

*Vitamin C (To resist infection, for good eyesight, build placenta) Citrus, berries, vegetable juices.

*Vitamin D (Sushine) For strong bones and teeth) Milk, cod liver oil.

*Vitamin E (Mental Efficiency, muscular growth, healing, lactation, decreases need for oxygen in new born) Wheat germ, sardines, tomatoes, olive oil, coconut oil, steak , barley, bananas, avocado, peanut oil, corn oil, butter.

*Vitamin K (Important in blood coagulation - prevents hemorrhaging) Sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage.

*Magnesium, *Potassium, *Vitamin B6, *Complete Protein 85 grams a day, Folic Acid 1-4 mg. a day.

Check with your doctor who works with a nutritionist on YOUR INDIVIDUAL NEEDS. AVOID ALL JUNK FOODS!

NAUSEA & VOMITING: Usually occurs in early morning because, after hours without food, the blood sugar is usually low. To prevent this drop in blood sugar, eat some protein with a little natural starch or sugar immediately before going to bed. (fortified milk or cheese or fruit juice) Until nausea is over, eat again before getting up. A warm cup of peppermint or spearmint tea will help settle the stomach.

DIURETICS: During pregnancy it is common for fluids to be retained in the body, a condition known as edema. If the diet is adequate, it can easily be prevented or quickly corrected. Obstetricians usually attempt to solve this problem by giving drugs known as diuretics, which are
