Tips to save money on your summer get-away

Summer is here and you have that urge to get away. We just need to find less expensive ways to do this. With gas prices soaring, even a road trip is expensive. To get around these obstacles you need to do some planning. When planning, decide how much money you actually have to spend on a trip. This does not include credit cards. Once you know how much money you have to spend, it should narrow your choices.

You can still have a nice vacation or get-away without spending a lot of money. One suggestion is searching the Internet or stop by a rest area in your area, this is usually located off the highway. Also, called a travel resource center. It is free and they have maps, brochures, lodging information, festivals, summer events for just about every county in your state.

In these books and brochures you can find coupons for lodging and amusement parks. There are phone numbers and websites that you can find information on prices and specials. There are a variety of things to do for a couple or a family. For instance, fishing, antiques, water-parks, camping, amazing malls to shop, county fairs and gambling trips. You can take all these brochures and magazines home with you and decide with your family where you would like to go.

Having the resources will help you plan your trip and save money. Some other effective ways to save is to have your car checked. Change air filter, get a tune up, change the oil and coolant. Also check the pressure in your tires. All these little things can save you money on gas.

If driving is not on your agenda, try checking airfares. Again go on the Internet and check websites that give you the lowest prices. Call your travel agent because they have access to great vacation packages that will include hotel accommodations, coupons for entertainment and meals. You can save the most money by flying during a certain season or departing and arriving at very early or late hours.

Before you set out to your destination, pack coolers full of food and drinks. This will save money on eating out. Purchase items you need ahead of time to avoid purchasing out of necessity. Plan your route to avoid delays and construction. Find quicker routes to your destination.

Renting, borrowing a camper or recreational vehicle is a great idea. Take the family camping, fishing, visiting relatives or seeing new sites. This is also a great idea for a romantic getaway. You will save on hotels and meals. Just be sure to bring enough food. Stock that refrigerator before you leave. Purchase enough batteries and film from your discount stores.

If your lucky enough to know someone with a summer home or country cottage, ask them if you can rent it for a week. You can do some research on the area for things to do. Whatever you decide to do, remember planning ahead will save you money. Talking with friends and relatives can help too. Everyone goes on vacation and they may just have some great ideas.

For some final ways to save, avoid traveling too far, get your vehicle checked before you leave. If you need a hotel or motel, check seasonal rates and daily rates. Reserve your room. Whatever you can't buy, rent or borrow. The important thing is to have fun and be safe. Leave the your problems at home and enjoy your get-away.
