Well to start this off I already know that a lot of people think that saying that it isn't attainable is depressing and they don't want to hear it. If you think about it it really isn't though. The moment you have more than one human together you have different views of things and different ideas about how to solve problems. There are a couple of huge things that show this pretty clearly.
One would be religion. This one is the biggest one. Different people with different environments and different lifestyles obviously come up with different reasons as to why they are on earth. When their views are deemed wrong by another religion they instantly get defensive and fight to prove the other wrong. Its human nature to hate being wrong and to try to prove yourself. There will never really be one religion that everyone all over the world will follow and you can't ban it either. If you tried to do that there would be a huge uproar about it and people would still practice their old views.
Another reason would be that we are all from different sides of the world and in each part there is different environments which cause for different priorities. In case you haven't noticed people love to criticize each others priorities. This is evident in the media about celebrities. People will gossip about one another making fun of how they handled situations and what they would have done differently. This is also human nature to try to make yourself look better than someone else. Everyone wants to look good in other peoples eyes and they will lie and watch someones every move to find something wrong with them to see that they are better than that person.
The term "Knowing your past helps to control your future" doesn't help either. This phrase should not be used. Why do you think there are Neo-Nazis in America? They were inspired by learning about what Hitler did and now they want to copy him. People look to deep in to the past and what do you know it ends up repeating itself. One bad apple will spoil the bunch is the best way to look at this, Because (I'm only using the holocaust as an example there are other things out there that fit in this category as well) of what Hitler thought was right and he went and did they worship him for standing out and for having some of the same views as they do and want to copy what he did.
There are more reasons as to why peace on earth is not realistic but I'll leave it at those for now. It's just human nature to hate or to dislike someone else whether it be for colour, race, religion, views its just what happens when you have so many of us together. I heard this in a movie and I don't remember what one (I think it was one of the saw movies but not sure) " Once you have more than one human in a small dark room we start thinking of ways to kill each other." is all to true.
