you extra help, and can be placed at the end of machinery to take the weight of wood, when you work single-handedly.

For cleaning the workshop.

A good quality woodworking shop vacuum helps you to clean the place up when you have been working. These are available in all types and sizes depending upon requirements, but buying a wet and dry one is a great idea for the woodwork shop as you never know when you may spill moist items and need it. A good quality broom is also something you will use on a daily basis, together with bin bags, dustpan and hand brush.

Hardware.

Without a variety of fittings, you may just find yourself needing that one size of plug you forgot to buy. Have a good stock of rawl plugs, dowel of different sizes, screws of all different lengths, as well as a variety of nails. Having these all sorted into their own compartments helps you to find them when you have the need. Look at the different heads of nails since these are very relevant to use, as are the different types of screw. Add to your hardware supply as you will always use all those items at some stage.

Extras for power tools.

Your power tools come with accessories, but you will have to replenish the stock from time to time. Make sure you have a variety of sanding discs, sand belts, blades for different cuts such as medium course or fine for your jigsaw, as these always get worn out when you lease expect it. Always have a good power supply throughout the workshop and ensure that you have enough electrical leads to avoid having to stretch and work in positions which compromise safety.

Safety items.

Lastly but by no means least, ensure that you buy the necessary protection for your eyes, ears and breathing. Ear defenders which protect your ears against up to 30dB are the best ones to get . Some are easy to wear with goggles, while others make these uncomfortable.

Goggles will protect you from flying debris which can compromise your eyesight. If handling wood which is raw from the woodyard, the investment in gloves and a good quality woodworking apron won't go amiss. Your breathing should also be protected when working with fine dust or chemicals which threaten breathing. Small masks can save your lungs and come in packs which are easily affordable.

Now that you have the basics of a workshop, you can begin to enjoy your woodworking experience knowing that you took care of the necessities and all the commonplace practices and dangers you may encounter in the workshop environment. Of course, there will always be more items which tempt you. The New Yankee Workshop shows a variety of items to tempt even the most frugal of woodworkers, though with the items above, you have covered the basics of what is needed for day to day woodworking.
