Keeping to a workout schedule while on vacation

Keeping to a workout schedule while on vacation isn't always an easy task. Vacations are often an excuse to sit back, relax, and leave all schedules behind. But do you really want to throw it all away? With some planning and commitment, it is possible to incorporate working out into your vacation schedule.

Always Workout in the Morning

There is a small window of opportunity that exists in the morning. It is a time when all is quiet, there are no distractions, and you are not yet exhausted by the day's excitement. This is the time, and possibly the only time, you will have to workout. Miss this opportunity, and the chances of squeezing in a workout while on vacation drop drastically.

Give Yourself Some Slack

Don't expect your vacation workouts to be up to the standards of your typical workout. If you do, you might just set yourself up for disappointment, or you might even abandon the idea of working out at all. Accept the fact that vacation workouts will not be perfect, and instead look at them as a time for recovery, or even as a time to try something new. Preparing your mind for your vacation workout schedule will help you be more open to dealing with obstacles.

Know Before You Go

Does your hotel have fitness room? Is there a convenient place to jog? Is there a pool? Knowing information such as this will enable you to plan your workouts before you arrive at your destination. This eliminates time spent inquiring and searching when you arrive, enabling you to get the most out of your workout.

Learn to Improvise

No fitness room? No problem! Now might be a good time to try some simple push ups and crunches in the comfort of your own room. You can even utilize the stairs to achieve effective leg workout. Remember, there are endless ways to incorporate exercise into your vacation.

Don't Be Fooled

Your vacation may be a workout all by itself! Walking around a theme park for 10 hour a day is exercise. Playing volleyball on the beach is exercise. Swimming is exercise. Take a close look at your activities, because exercise may just be sneaking its way into your schedule already.

Vacations are supposed to be a break from your regular schedule, workouts included. Take your vacation as an opportunity to enjoy different types of exercises, and you will find yourself refreshed, rejuvenated, and motivated to get back on schedule when you arrive home.
