For 14 years our Sebo X1 Automatic (similar to the Windsor "Ensign," which in the U.S remains to be one of Sebo's longest best selling vacuums) ran rings around other models from Dyson to Oreck, and remains to be a brand I have trusted. However when we started to accumulate smaller pieces of furniture and additional rugs to protect a newly laid woollen carpet throughout our home, a larger upright vacuum cleaner was beginning to feel bulky and a cylinder vacuum was the lighter resolution to get around everything even though it did not give good performance from its air driven motor brush floor head alone. Enter the Sebo Felix.
The Felix is an entirely new design from the ground up, looking and feeling like a bigger stick vacuum but has interchangeable tools that can be adapted to make the Felix into a larger hand held vacuum. I was initially impressed with the actual design and power when I first trialled this vacuum and over the X series which now remains to be Sebo's larger upright vacuum, the Sebo Felix is an ideal vacuum for small to medium sized flats, holiday homes or for young professionals who want the job done without creating a mess and where storage may be limited.
When tested against the Dyson Slim DC14, which is a newer model than the Sebo Felix on size, the Dyson DC14 did appear smaller thus making my decision harder to justify. So I researched and found some surprising results. Sebo size has been given in closed brackets: The DC14 comes in at a height of 111cm (Sebo Felix height 104cm), a width of 30cm (Sebo Felix width 31cm) and a diameter of 41.5cm (Sebo Felix diameter 38cm). The Dyson is also 8kg which is too heavy for me or my parents and in all it seems Sebo once again have identified the needs of the consumer rather than what looks good on paper.
On the design alone the Felix is a combination of upright design and cylinder/canister vacuum components with a built in height adustable handle, variable electronic suction control, three further cleaning tools and a separate timed electric powered motor head with the ability to stop its brush from moving by simply stepping on the stop button; this means the upright can be used for cleaning hard floors.
Just like Sebo's X range, the Felix also benefits from having the same brush rolls and button on the floor head to remove the entire beater bar without having to fish out a tool box. Why does it benefit? Because aside from easy maintenance the Felix has an easy to remove hose, an inspection
