Michael Jackson. How to describe such a man? It goes beyond the simple fact that he was a musical artist. He was so much more.
He was an eccentric character who changed America and the world. Jackson mesmerized crowds and left an imperishable mark on an entire generation of the world.
Jackson was so important to so many people around the world, from Britain to India to the United States. Soldiers may fight for their nation, but Michael Jackson entertained the entire world.
Jackson will go down as one of the great icons and stars in history. The "King of Pop" fundamentally changed pop culture and the music scene. Without Jackson and pop music, there would not be many of the great musical artists that the current generation enjoys.
Jackson's impact has stretched to people who never even listened to his music. Jackson advanced the rights of blacks. His popularity forced MTV to play black music. This opened the door to acceptance of different races and cultures in America.
Say what one will about Michael Jackson, he, in his prime, was a force unlike any artist in history, with the possible exceptions of Elvis and the Beatles. Jackson was extremely prolific, and his music videos were played all throughout the day.
Jackson's tough childhood, along with his inner insecurities and deficiencies, led to some of his worst decisions. He brought young boys to his ranch in an attempt to keep them young and away from the adult world. His insecurities led to an voracious quest for fame. He may have abused medications to get away from his problems. All this led to his ultimate downfall, but Jackson's memories will live on forever.
Jackson will be remembered as a larger than life, and also a very polarizing, figure. Many people love Jackson and openly grieved his passing. Others say that he got what he deserved for his alleged abuses. But no one can deny Jackson's great talent and persona.
Michael Jackson: an individual that oozed talent all over. A natural star with charisma. But also a headc ase at times. We'll remember all of this, all these sides to a very complex individual.
He entered the world with a bang, and shook up the natural order. To the millions of people exposed to Michael Jackson, the world will never be the same.
There were those who came before him and those who will try and imitate him, but there will never be another Michael Jackson.
