If you are just getting into woodworking there are accessories that every woodworker needs to get started on any project. Woodworking is an art which makes the tools you use very important and while there are many tools to choose from there are some that becomes a must in order for you to complete the project you have in mind. here are the basic tools you will need to get started and as your woodworking develops there are plenty of more tools that can be added.
Claw hammer
Although everyone has used a hammer at sometime in their lives you will find that it is a tool you can't do without in a woodshop. There are many types of hammers but the most versatile is the claw hammer. The hammer you choose should have a slightly rounded smooth head and it should be light weight, somewhere around 20 ounces. When you are looking for a hammer pick them up and get the feel of the hammer in your hand. You can easily tell when you find it; the hammer will feel quite comfortable.
Square
It is essential that you have a six inch layout square. This square will become invaluable to you as a working tool. If you're looking for an end cut, this tool is a must and it can quickly give you a forty five degree angle or any measurement up to six inches. It is easy to place in your pouch as you move around your workshop.
Tape measure
A tape measure is a must in a workshop and when you're shopping for a tape, looks for a 25 foot retractable tape. The tape should have standard as well as metric markings; it should have a locking mechanism with a slightly loose hook at the end of the tape. When you purchase a tape with a loose end it is placed there by design to help you get an accurate measurement when you take an internal or external measurement.
Utility knife
The next important tool you will need is a utility knife. Your knife should have disposable razor blades as well as a locking mechanism to keep the blade in place. This amazing knife can do many things for the woodworker such as scribing a piece of wood that you are working with or cleaning up a hinge mortise. There are hundreds of uses for this versatile knife.
Chisels
A woodworker must have a chisel in the workshop. A chisel has to be kept sharpened and when it is you'll find many uses for this tool such as cleaning out waste off joints and mortises. You can have several of these chisels in the shop. A one inch beveled edged chisel can be very useful always keep one within easy reach.
