The Japanese whalers say that they are killing whales for research and that they are not just doing it for the profit, but the sea shepherds know that the only reason that they are killing them is to sell them for a profit. When they first saw this going on, they tried protesting against the whalers but barely any people were paying any attention to them, so they decided to try and stop them themselves, and so the vessel, Steve Irwin was given to them after Steve died a couple years ago because he got stung by a stingray.

After the boat was given to them, they went out there and tried to stop the whalers by throwing stink bombs and a special substance that gets very slippery when wet. When the stink bombs are spilled on the whale meat, they also make it something, that nobody would want to eat so that the whalers can not sell it. All these things that they are doing are relatively simple and are only meant to make it hard for the Japanese whalers to work and operate the boat, and if you think that these things are bad and violent, then I have no idea what you think of the Japanese whalers and what they are doing to the sea shepherds, just some of these things include things that could easily kill them or severely injure them- for life. Just a few examples include: throwing flash grenades directly at them, threatening to throw tear gas grenades on deck of the sea Sea Shepherds boat, possibly putting toxic substances on there boat when they are in port, using to get them away from them. So if you still think the whalers are not doing anything wrong, think again.

When the Sea Shepherds boarded the Japanese vessel, they did NOT mean to hurt anybody or take anything! They were simply trying to get the government's attention so they would see what the whalers are doing and hopefully shut down the whaling fleet so that they will stop killing whales because, if we did not have any whales in our ecosystem, all of us will die. So if you are concerned about the eco-system and your own life you should try to get the governments attention or if that is not for you, the Sea Shepherds is an organization run completely by donations and has no other way of getting the money that they need to buy all the stuff that is necessary to stop the whalers from destroying our eco-system and killing whales and if they get away with all the things that they are doing, they could, quite possibly, kill lots and lots of people and make this world a horrible place to live.

If you want to learn more about the Sea Shepherds and what they are doing to try and stop the Japanese whaling fleet, watch there show on the animal planet called "Whale Wars", and remember that they are just trying to save our planet!
