Purpose And Limits Of Government
The writers of the US constitution gave humankind a road map, they looked at history and saw where the future was not. The purpose and limits of the US federal government are clearly defined by the preamble. It explains why, and is a guide to show how 'we the people,' want to be self-governed. It amalgamates the metaphysical with the political by enshrining the principles of a 'good king', and then abdicates kingship, relinquishing responsibility, giving it as a gift that keeps on giving.
Regulating commerce "...among the several states, with foreign nations and with the Indian tribes...", must needs be focused upon the purpose of government, which is prescribed in the preamble; to establish justice, ensure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense (heart), and promote the general welfare(equality)...", requires commerce to be regulated.
Unfortunately, the US, in principle, is a failed state; because, the oldest and most prestigious schools in the US were around before the American Revolution. Their standard has been mimicked, poorly mimicked and faked throughout the US in the form of public education. What trickles down from Harvard and Yale is a sincere 18th century belief in European partisanship. Unfortunately, this sincerity is factious, contentious, and offers no guarantee for right reason in agreement with the principles so enshrined. It is a dollar driven thorn in the backside of the American experiment. This old world democracy inspired the founders of the United States to give Americans an opportunity, if not the responsibility, of page turning, starting a new chapter: a republican form of government.
When there is no dictator, king or, oligarchy, the collective power & knowledge of citizenship is sovereign; but in order to form 'a more perfect union', sound principles of equity must guide government according to the preamble; which makes clear the language of laws, the utility of philosophies, religions, the arts and sciences, and provides business to follow the will of the people. Its keystone is liberty.
Liberty is evidenced by movement and speech, but the essential blessings of
liberty are the foundation of republican government; justice, tranquility,
heart, and equality are the responsibility of 'we the people' to establish,
ensure, provide, and promote, and secure to posterity. To establish justice:
requires 'we the people' to be objective. To ensure domestic tranquility:
requires 'we the people' to agree with nature. To provide for the common
defense: requires 'we the people' to have a common heart. To promote the
general welfare: requires 'we the people' to be equal. To secure the (se)
blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity: requires 'we the people' to
understand constitutional solidarity, which is more cultural than individual. The
language of constitutional law declares sovereign responsibility for posterity. It
allows 'we the people' to feel, and grow a republican form of government; that
"shall never perish from the Earth" if philosophic, religious, artful, scientific,
and business pursuits serve to culturally secure these essential blessings of
liberty to people and future generations.
