Animal cruelty of rodeo events vary, it depends on who you ask.
My father, who passed away yesterday, introduced the rodeo lifestyle to me since I began to walk but never admired the animal abuse. He used to tell me to take the bull by the horns when times were tough.
Today, I take the bull by the horn and share with you another side of rodeo events when it comes to animal cruelty. First horn, rodeos were born during the late 1800s at a time when many would only harm an animal to put food on their plate. Second horn, the 1940s opened the door to hell as the rodeos began to be cruel to the animals involved, just to gather more interest and profit. This was ten years after rodeos made it through purse and prize circulation.
In the 1940s a bull's scrotum would be tied by a rope that would engage aggression to make that bull push with all it's might in order to present a bouncy ride. During the 1940s a calf would be introduced before they were ready to be roped. The muscle mass of a fragile calf only would break a bone on instant. Muscle protects the bones of a calf. But times have changed folks since animal activists began to take note. Although, there is still much to do.
The reason why the 1940s were the worse time in history for any animal during a rodeo event only pertained to the funds it began to rake in. The crowd had to be pleased so rodeo participants and runners began using various techniques to beef up the profits. Also, the television circuit began to share rodeos as a national event of entertainment. The more the media got involved, the bigger the outcome in financial gain. In a way, one can say, that television contributed to the selfishness of the rodeo circuit with little of concern in animal cruelty. The 1940s was the decade when animal cruelty was introduced for profit alone.
Unfortunately, it began with money but fortunately can end up with love. Contact the Animal Humane Association to become involved.
The American Humane Association (AHA) has, in fact, worked with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) to assure that a bull doesn't have their scrotum tied or a calf entering before the age that their muscle mass is not strong enough to endure the blow to the ground along with other issues such a the use of a cattle prod or drug induction.
The Electrical Cattle Prod:
The cattle prod was not used prior to the 1960's within the rodeo circuit but due to the financial gain and profit, the wranglers introduced the
