The Learning of Leaves
Woods of raven wing and apple blossom seed
caught the days in darker limbs,
rode the winds in red-strand scent
as we bent paths on our way to maturity.
I cuffed your wrist in endless twist of dial,
shouted without words for rest;
for the distance between us to consist
of more than familiar notes claimed by lovers
now unknown and the sweet sweat
of pale petaled trees.
You kept your eyes ahead~
I pressed cheek to window
and let the passing glass mirages
have their way with me;
pretended the moisture was condensation
as black crowded its way in,
vexed the windshield with void.
But I had already dismissed its gloved fist,
huddled myself into a summer since passed
where warmth trailed our wanderings in envy.
I soft-footed sleep-vision into plantings
heart didn't manage to avoid~
Those gossamer eves when skies breathed fire
and the sword lilies seemed as wicks slant-coloured
by the fury of passions in wuthering height
...And you {my sea} were always full,
depths uniting with my indigo sweep~
Seamless were we, semi-mastering each other
in August and no worries after.
You woke me, dropped me at the dorm door
vowing pictures and visits every other week~
And our last kiss
creeps nightly upon white pillow
to vein cold sheets in juniper blues.
