Ways to stay motivated when writing

Just like the ups and downs in life, the peaks and troughs in writing are ubiquitous. There are times when you feel you are energetic and fully geared, but there are also times when all you want is to escape. Both of them are unavoidable moments you must face. But how can you protect yourself in those weak moments and, more importantly, be motivated regardless of the down feelings? Having a positive mind and being upbeat are easier said than done, and the following tips will teach you how you can achieve this.

Create Your Unique Writing Corner
The first step of all is to create a unique writing corner, which should be both comfortable and supportive that whenever you set foot in it you feel fully motivated. All it takes is some thinking and organizing. First, figure out what items, which could be a family photo, your favorite music disc, or your favorite book by your favorite writer, can get you most motivated when you see them. Second, determine the location of your writing corner, and declutter the place from any distraction. Finally, decorate your writing corner with those handpicked items in a easily seen place. Now, you can write anytime in a most supportive and motivating environment.

Take Time Off
Not matter how tough you are, your energy will be used up by working too hard for hours and hours on end. That's why we have Sunday and holiday. We use them to refresh our body and mind. So when we resume working again, we can be fully energized. Remember to give yourself a break between blocks of writing when you feel your energy is on the down side.

Reward Yourself
When we were kids, we were excited to receive gifts for good behaviors. Because of this small token of praise, we were motivated to behave well next time. The same could be applied to motivating yourself to write. Whenever you write something great, buy a small gift for yourself as a praise. The gift doesn't have to be expensive. Something as cheap as a chocolate bar or candies you find in the kitchen can do. The importance of the reward lies not in its face value, but in the excitement it provokes in your writing life.

Announce Your Writing Pledge
Announcing your writing pledge on Facebook, Twitter, or your blog can help you motivate yourself in writing. When your pledge for writing is known to everybody, you feel guilty to disappoint them. Your chance to fail is low.

Develop a Daily Routine
A daily routine can get you into the flow of writing more easily. Make a daily schedule to remind yourself of the unfinished projects you have on hand. From the wake-up time, work out your daily schedule for work, household chores, and leisure time. Stick to this schedule to the best of your ability.

If you are serious in writing, one of the most important things is to learn to stay motivated. As the saying goes, "When there is a will, there is a way."
