Star Wars games have been around since the days of the Intellivision but Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic marks a rather unique entry in the series. Knights if the old republic was developed by the same people who brought you the Baldur's Gate series Bioware bring you a role playing game set in a time line thousands of years before the events of episodes one through six. You start off on the Endar Spire a Galactic Republic cruiser under attack by the Sith forcing you to fight your way out against Sith boarding parties before your ship is destroyed. You escape the Endar Spire via escape pod only to crash land on the nearby planet of Taris. You awake in an abandoned apartment after having terrible nightmares, from here you are introduced to fellow Endar Spire Carth Onasi your first party member. You must now find a way off of Taris but bad news Taris is under a Sith blockade and they have declared marshal law. So from here you journey begins will you side with righteous Jedi or the cruel Sith or will you fall somewhere in between?
Pros:
Presentation
Knights of the Old Republic features one one of the best stories I have ever seen it could have been a movie it's that good. The cut scenes are very well done and the voice acting is top notch with well thought out lines.
Combat
Combat is unique it has the rules of a turn based system but it is enacted in real time and it actually works! This system makes battles dynamic and there is a pause button feature if you want to slow the battle down to think more strategically.
Cons:
Short
If I have to find something wrong with this game it is that you could probably complete it in under forty-eight hours or less. The game will be even shorter if you just follow the main quest which may be irritating for hardcore gamers of the genre and there are only two endings to the game light or dark.
Lots of backtracking.
If you don't like backtracking this game will make you grit your teeth a lot of the quests make you return to places you have already been to and are individually loaded meaning you may have to wade through a lot of loading screens to progress in this game.
Overall I would ask why are you still reading this? Pick this game up now! Even if your not a fan of Star Wars you can find an enjoyable experience from this game. I rate Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic an eight out of ten.
