I know of a few people that take photographs of children modeling custom made clothing. One lady in particular puts out the most amazing photos, and I'll tell you a bit about her backgrounds. If weather permits, she prefers to take her daughter (who does the modeling) to different settings around their city. This could be in front of a small quaint boutique, in front of a nice wrought iron fence, at an uncrowded beach, or even in a concrete stairwell of an old building. My most favorite photos she took were in front of a toy store. Her model was dressed in a Christmas themed outfit, and she was looking with glee at all the toys in the toy store window. Those photos were priceless!
Now when the weather is not cooperative to her business, she will shoot the pictures in her home, using a set up she put together herself. She invested in a good plain white muslin, that she has attached to a backdrop stand. On the floor, she has a piece of white acrylic plexiglass. With a tiny bit of touching up the transition from the muslin to the plexiglass in a graphics program, this gives a seamless look to the finished photo, and they are breathtaking! The nice thing about the plexiglass floor in my opinion, is the little bit of reflection you get. It's not as strong as a mirror reflection, but the colors bounce nicely, giving a nice look to the photo.
