Pepsi began making energy drinks in the early 2000s with a hybrid energy drink soda known as Mountain Dew MDX. After a while though, MDX began to disappear and a new energy drink from Pepsi came about. This new energy drink was called Amp Energy can was strongly associated with Pepsi's Mountain Dew line of beverages.

For the first few years Amp Energy was strongly associated with Mountain Dew. Packaging promptly displayed the Mountain Dew logo and in fact the taste of Amp was close to that of Mountain Dew. Amp was basically MDX tweaked and modified to better compete with the likes of Red Bull, Monster, and Rockstar.

Pepsi then begin releasing various flavors and styles of Amp Energy while at the same time, reducing the amount of association with Mountain Dew in what could be considered an effort to make Amp a stand alone product. Amp Energy varieties began to go up in number and Amp Energy with Black Tea was one of the latest (as of 2009) varieties to come to market. The black tea version came at the same time as the green tea and lemonade versions.

The full list of ingredients and nutritional information can be found at the website available above. Like the green tea version, Amp Energy with Black Tea is actually Amp energy mixed with a tea mixture, rather than simply a energy drink flavored with tea like flavors.

Kick -

For me, the Amp energy drink line of beverages never really delivered a solid kick of energy like some of it's competitors. Amp energy drinks contain a lot of the standard fare for energy drinks including caffeine, b-vitamins, and ginseng. Amp Energy with Black Tea is no exception. Unlike the green tea counterpart, there is standard energy drink ingredients in this drink, the Amp with Green Tea contains a fruit extract called yuzu.

Some people might like the 'smooth' kick that can come from Amp Energy drinks, there aren't likely to be an jitters and you might be able to sit still for long periods of time while still staying somewhat alert.

However, hardcore energy drink consumers might not find much of an energy rush from Amp Energy with Black Tea, which in a way kind of makes sense considering this is a energy drink combined with tea. Tea is often used to relax us, not hype us up.

If you want a traditional energy drink buzz and kick, look elsewhere. Which may surprise some consumers since
