It's summer. Time to relax and enjoy TV on DVD. But it is also the time to look ahead to the fall schedule for us TV-junkies and critics. Because fall is coming- and with it are some very promising television shows. But be careful, they are shortly followed by some not-so-much. Here is a list of what I think will be the top 5 shows to look out for in the fall of 2009.
1. "V" (ABC)
Premieres this fall
Finally, the remake of the old science-fiction thriller "V" is here. But don't expect that television you knew and loved, old fans. This is "V" revamped. It is the modern age now, so the television show itself has molded to a modern world. The show follows multiple lives as Earth experiences the contact of an alien race who call themselves the Visitors. They are far beyond our years in technological advances and offer their technology in exchange for water and nutrients essential to their survival. At first, the world embraces their new "allies," but soon, things come to light that could shatter the healthy relationship between cultures. A resistance is formed made up of people who believe that the Visitors are evil and the story develops with increasing pace. This alien thriller is sure to satisfy the sci-fi culture of today. With the killer actress Elizabeth Mitchell ("Lost") leading the cast of "V," it is sure to be a hit this year. I extremely encourage that you watch this trailer. http://abc.go.com/fallpreview/index?pn=v.
2. "Parenthood" (NBC)
Premieres Wednesdays this fall, 8PM ET/PT
Featuring Peter Krause ("Six Feet Under"), this show is a new character comedy/drama from NBC with a list of prominent actors all under the producing of Ron Howard. It covers a large family and how the specific branches of that family deal with parenting. Star-studded and strongly produced, this show could have a high critique. "Parenthood" will chronicle the "absurd journey" of life and parenting this fall and I can't wait till its premiere. Trailer: http://www.nbc.com/parenthood/?__source=front-door|s hows|dropdown
3. "Community" (NBC)
Premieres Thursdays this fall, 8PM ET/PT
Joel McHale has another television show. Alert the media- and while you are there, tell them about how great it looks. Original, quick, snappy, and funny enough to laugh along with in a five minute promo, this show is on the top of my new comedy lists for this fall. Chevy Chase plays a main role, too, and absolutely shines. I predict this show is going to win in the long run. Joel McHale plays
