How to manage rheumatoid arthritis

4. Immunosuppressants: Since, during RA the immune system is out of control, these drugs are given to suppress the immune system. These drugs also eliminate other cells associated with RA.

5. TNF-alpha inhibitors: TNF-alpha is a cytokine is an inflammatory agent in RA. TNF inhibitors inhibit cytokine production. This results in reducing pain, morning stiffness, and tenderness or swelling of joints.

6. Anakinra: Anakinra is similar to interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra), which can reduce inflammation.

7. Abatacept: Abatacept also reduces the inflammation and joint damage by inactivating T cells.

8. Rituximab: Rituximab reduces the number of B cells in your body which are involved in producing inflammation.

Surgery
in cases where medications fail, surgery may be considered. Options of surgeries include the following procedures:

1. Total joint replacement (arthroplasty)

2. Tendon repair

3. Removal of the joint lining (synovectomy)

Risk of surgeries includes bleeding, infection and pain.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Management by Exercise

RA can also be managed by doing regular exercises. Some ideal options of exercises effective in RA include water aerobics, tai chi, yoga, weight lifting, or walking.
