How many stars are in the universe?

looks like this: 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.

Another estimate of the number of stars in our Universe is by the estimation of the galaxies in the Universe:

Small Dwarf Galaxies with 10 million or so stars,

Giant Galaxies with 10 trillion or so stars,

Milky Way Galaxy with 200 billion or so stars,

The way of estimating the amount of stars in the average galaxy would be 1011 and 1012 stars. In words instead of numbers it is estimated at between 100 billion and 1 trillion number of stars. Now that is a lot of stars in counting and that is only an estimate of how many stars are in our Universe.

Science is exploring, inventing, developing, researching and discovery. It is something that always needs updating as it always has new discoveries and developments that show new evidence. So next year and as the years go on Astronomy will also be updating and providing more knowledge and better pictures with technology provided by better equipment. Space agencies launch spacecraft unmanned that helps them in revising and estimating the number of stars in the Universe. The "Hubble Telescope" now sends more information and data home for us to see and learn from, http://www.nasa.gov .

European Space Agency's, "Herschel Spacecraft", launched 2009 will help to look back into the early stages of our universe so as to calculate the rate of star formation billions of years ago. This will be of great help to astronomers in estimating the amount of stars in the Universe today. It will also supply more information on the formation of stars with more updated data and pictures that will show on their site: http://www.esa.int .

Just about all the stars in the Universe are gathered together into galaxies. How many galaxies there are Astronomers have estimated this number also. There are approximately 100 billion to 1 trillion galaxies in the Universe. When you multiply this number 100 billion x 1 trillion it estimates 1022 and 1024 stars in the Universe. In words this is 10 sextillion and 1 septillion stars in the Universe.

So, there is no exact number of how many stars there are in the Universe as there is always more to see and discover so more and more are found and discovered. That is just the way it is with Astronomy. There is always more to learn and see to add to and clarify.
