Guide to the best paranormal Internet sites

by Kacey Stapleton

There is no better way to fill a few empty hours than to read a few ghost stories, unless it's to read the tales of daring from paranormal investigators or watch a scary real life supernatural video. You just don't want to wade through all the phonies and lame wannabe spooky sites on the way to finding some good stuff. Who could blame you? Here are a few best bets when it comes to paranormal sites.

The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS) website is one of the best and the most detailed researcher or investigative sites. Here you will find well-written and informative articles on a range of topics. There's also news on what activities the famous team is currently working on, and even a link to their Twitter page.

If you would rather read about a ghost than find out ways to hunt them down then you have several choices. Some pages are devoted to legends or folk tales while others offer real-life ghost stories sent in by other readers. A good folktale and ghost stories site is The Moonlit Road. This site offers great stories from many places, but most are from the south a part of the country steeped in ghostly traditions and stories. According to The Moonlit Road's FAQ page, the website is staffed by 'writers, storytellers, musicians, graphic artists and engineers" who offered their time and the site's for free since 1997.Their obvious talents show in the sites spooky but beautiful graphics and the excellent content. Listed on the left side are the different categories and how many stories fall under each one. Being from the south my favorite story is the ultra weird and scary "Sop Doll" which you'll find under the "Witch" section.

Your Ghost Stories.com is a site that says it all right in the title. People from all over the world send in their stories of ghostly encounters. Some are of course more interesting than others and what's frightening like everything else is a matter of taste. Still if you want to read back to back ghost stories sworn as the truth by their writers then this is your site. You can also add your own story and information about your ghost group if you happen to belong to one.

Ghostories.com has been around for a very long time and has the well stocked archive to prove it. Well, a long time for the Internet anyway as the site went live in 1996 with the tales of the returning dead. K. R. O'Neill the original founder and poster has had limited involvement in the last few years, but the stories are still being posted, and you can send in your own tales or true life haunted terror if you'd like. Many of the stories on this site are long, but interesting. If you're not careful while browsing through this site large swatches of time might mysterious disappear from your day.

Castle of Spirits is another ghost story site with a long history. Originally conceived and running successfully in 1997 this beautiful designed site was the brain child of Rowena Gilbert. When she passed away in March of 2008 the site was in the midst of being refurbished and is now not only organized, but haunting memorable. It's no surprise this website has a worldwide following. As with the other sites you check out recent stories, browse through the archives, or submit a story of your own. Castle of Spirits also has Ghost Photos, and more. There's even an urban legend section where you can find out the truth about the ghostly image of a boy frequently glimpsed in a scene from Three Men and a Baby.

If "seeing is believing" for you, there's Ghostsearch.org where you can find old and new alleged ghost photos. They also have a fake or explainable list that might come in handy if you have a friend or relative who keeps sending you pictures you just can't buy as genuine.

If you need the moving kind of pictures, but you're tired of the poor quality everyone on YouTube routinely has to deal with then ghostvideos.ws is for you. All the standards like the ghostly face reflected in a child's mirror or the ghost girl crying in the corner are here plus many more.

The nice thing of course about doing all your ghost hunting on the Internet is you can stay in a nice air-conditioned room, and if you get scared you can just turn it all off to play a video game instead.
