There are several occasions when I have encountered rudeness. Perhaps the drastic change of the lifestyle in the modern world has something to do with the rampant rudeness. Rude people are easy to deal with if you show them that you are not so much affected by their rudeness. If you get even with them they will show that they are worse than you are. The best thing to deal with rudeness is to show the rude person that you are a mannered person who does not get even with them.
I often encounter rude people in places where I least expect them. The worst kind of rudeness that I had experienced was in Hong Kong. I just got out from the Metro Railway Transit (MTR) with my younger sister in tow when out of nowhere a man suddenly spat at my legs. I couldn't even begin to understand why he did that to me the fact that I was just walking with my sister and we were not doing anything wrong. After what he did, he stared on my face. Maybe he was waiting for me to retaliate but I just took out a tissue paper and wiped it off. The man seemed to think then made up his mind and bowed to us. That action alone made me thanked the man. Perhaps he wasn't thinking straight when he spat on my legs. If I retaliated and made bad remarks, he might have fought back and things would have gotten worse.
Here are some tips on how to deal with rude people:
Keep cool
No matter how rude the person is. You have to keep cool. A well-mannered person always takes things calmly. You will be more appreciated by those around if you talk to the rude person the best way you can without creating a scene or shouting. The rude person will be ashamed and perhaps say sorry. See? You have taught him/her a good lesson and perhaps he/she will refrain from being rude again.
Don't get even
Rudeness should be corrected but it does not mean that you will get even and be rude also to that person. If you are a sane person you will do better than get even. If you want to say something, do it in a nice way and say something that will enlighten the mind of the person but if you want to hurt that person who was rude, forget about it. You can end up quarreling and exchanging unpleasant words to each other. So before things get out of control, make up your mind and do what is proper. Never mind if that person is rude, the important thing is you have proven to yourself and to the people around that you are in control of the situation.
