The principals and the processes of how to use Squidoo to promote your business are not at all complicated. Squidoo is one of the most versatile and user friendly Web 2.0 hosting sites there is and using it to promote your business is something which anyone with even the most basic Web knowledge can achieve. Squidoo pages are built via a serious of building blocks called modules and the variety and number of same available provides for almost any purpose.
The first step is clearly to join Squidoo. It is then absolutely imperative that the business owner think very carefully about the URL which they wish to attribute to their Squidoo page, or lens. This is the one thing which can never be changed and must be extremely relevant to the business as well as a name or phrase which Web users are likely to input in to search engines when seeking the product or service which the business provides in its immediate locale. If, for example, the business was, "Joe's Plumbing Services," and located in, "Anytown," an excellent choice for the determinable part of the URL (following the, "Squidoo.com,") part would be, "joes-plumbing-services-anytow n." The lens should also be named, "Joe's Plumbing Services, Anytown."
The process of creating a Squidoo lens is an ongoing one. It is not sufficient to simply create a lens with all the relevant details and leave it as is, unattended for evermore. In the first instance, the user should select a number of Text modules, ideally a Table of Contents module, a Guestbook module and perhaps at least one Links module. These procedures are described in great depth upon the Squidoo site and should not be feared as the unknown.
It is an inescapable fact that content is King on the Internet. The business owner has to therefore ensure that they include lots of details about their business or services in logical form in different Text modules within their Squidoo lens. The actual content will of course vary depending upon the nature of the business but must be original and not copied from any existing Website. It is always a good idea to include a relevant photograph in each text module in the section provided for this purpose.
Links to relevant other sites around the Web are imperative to optimise any Website. These links should not of course be to such as the sites of competitors but perhaps to general sites of interest on the subject of the business which potential customers will find useful. This is also something which will go down well
