Walk into any scrapbook store and you will see aisles of paper, several types of adhesive and an abundance of page decorations. With so many scrapbooking supplies available, you may get confused on what the products are used for and not know what to buy.
To help guide you through this process, use the ABC's of scrapbooking supplies:
A
Adhesive is the glue used to hold page elements together and includes square tabs, tape runners, glue dots, photo corners and other products.
Albums come in several colors, shapes and sizes and are used to store and share scrapbook pages.
Alphabets and numbers are used to create titles, journaling and other text. They are available as stickers, die-cuts, chipboard, etc.
B
Brads accent any layout and are used in a variety of ways such as attaching photos or paper to a page. They come in different colors, sizes and shapes.
C
Cardstock is thick paper often used as backgrounds and photo mats.
Chipboard is a form of cardboard used to add dimension to scrapbook pages and comes decorated or plain with the option of decorating it yourself.
Corner rounders cut and round off the edges of photos and paper.
Craft knives are tools with small blades used for precision cutting.
D
Decorative paper is scrapbooking paper available in different designs, patterns and textures.
Die-cuts are paper cutouts available in a variety of designs.
Die-cut machines cut letters, numbers and shapes into paper.
E
Embellishments are used to decorate scrapbook pages and include silk flowers, jewels, buttons, etc.
Embossing tools are used to score paper for folding and to add texture or designs to cardstock and decorative paper.
Eyelets are inserted into scrapbook pages with an eyelet setter and hammer. They can be used as holes for threading ribbon and fibers or to attach photos and paper to scrapbook pages.
F
Fonts are available in different typefaces and used to create text for scrapbooking.
Frames add borders to photos or text on scrapbook pages.
G
Glitter and paint add sparkle or a splash of color to scrapbook pages and can be used to create custom-made decorative paper or embellishments.
H
Hardware are metal embellishments used for scrapbook page decorations.
Hole punches are tools used to make holes in paper. They are available in several sizes and shapes.
I
Ink and chalk highlight photographs, titles and add color to scrapbook pages.
J
Journaling cards and boxes are blocks of paper, occasionally with lines, used for writing
