Sitting in front of the computer day and night and you're probably not looking after your health. You might even be suffering from many health problems that you might not even be aware of. Health problems that are preventable and ones that you should be working to avoid.
Take regular breaks
Staring at a computer screen all day is not good for your eye sight. Take a break for five or ten minutes every hour or two. Move away from the screen, look out the window at something in the distance or close your eyes, put your feet up and relax. Regular breaks are going to prevent eye strain, back pain and give you a chance to restore your energy.
Exercise throughout the day
Leading a sedentary lifestyle, as most computer geeks do is not doing any favours for your health. Making time for exercise is even more important if you're constantly sitting in front of the computer. Computer geeks can be fit too. Take a break once or twice per day and go for a twenty minute walk or run, do some weight in your living room, or skip in place for five minutes a few times per day. You'll loosen up your muscles, give your body a break and take the strain away from your back.
Keep healthy food on hand
Snacking on chocolate, candy or chips is not the wisest choice. These types of food are going to raise your blog sugar levels, put you at risk of type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, vascular disease and many other preventable diseases. Instead, you should make smarter choices. Have a bowl of chopped fruit or vegetables at your desk to snack on throughout the day. When it comes to main meals stick to lean meats and salad.
Drink water instead of soft drink
If you're drinking coke and coffee to keep you up all day and night, stop it. You're hurting your health. Be a healthy computer geek and drink more water than soft drink, more green tea than coffee. Soft drinks are packed with sugar which is no good for you. If you can't live without soft drink than limit it to one small bottle per day or less.
Watch your posture
Computer geeks suffer from bad posture, especially if they sit in front of the computer with their shoulders slouched and their backs curved in an unnatural shape. If you're worried about your posture use an exercise ball to sit on while working at the computer. It will keep your posture in the ideal position because you have to constantly balance, no chance for slacking off and slouching.
Even if you spend lots of time in front of the computer as many people do these days, you can still remain healthy and fit. Make the right decisions throughout the day in relation to your diet, exercise and workplace and you won't suffer any of the health consequences from having a sedentary lifestyle in front of the computer.
