Problems? Questions about the future? Looking for love? A desire to contact with loved ones who have passed away? Wouldn't it be simple if someone had all of the answers and could help us with all of our questions? Hey, perhaps a psychic would be able to help. How about a quick call to the psychic hotline?
If it were truly that easy! If we could consult a psychic and our fears would simply disappear. Well, despite the popular and expected answer, the answer is No! Don't do it! Unfortunately, consulting a psychic is not recommended ever.
Psychics use a variety of techniques to supposedly contact another realm. Although a certain sensitivity might be attributed to certain individuals, it is not likely he/she can offer any real help. After all, if psychics were truly psychic, they could have millions of dollars betting on the horses or picking numbers for the lottery.
More importantly, however, is the warnings in the Holy Bible about the use of soothsayers and fortune tellers. He inquired of the Lord, but the Lord did not answer him by dreams or Urim or prophets. (I Samuel 28:5) No doubt this was because God had chosen the lowly shepherd David, son of Jesse, to be the new king. Because of his jealousy, Saul had been trying to kill David. So it was that Saul then disguised himself and met with the Witch of Endor. Suspicious that this was a trap, the Witch at first refused to call up the spirit of the dead Samuel. Assured that there would be no recriminations, the Witch called up the prophet Samuel from his grave who then told Saul that Israel was about to lose the battle and that Saul himself and his two sons would be killed.
The difference in speaking to the Witch of Endor and the prophet Samuel is that Samuel was a spokesperson for the Lord. The Witch was acting on her own behalf.
Joseph, the young son with the coat of many colors, is an even earlier prophet of God. Both before and after being sold into slavery in Egypt, he was able to interpret
