All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood. This is taken from the United Nation's Universal Declaration of Human Rights created in 1948.

Every human being is born with an intrinsic right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Citizens from the United States of America mainly use this saying, but it is the same for every person in this world. No matter what country or region of the world we are from, our basic rights as human beings are the same.

"Supremacism is the belief that a particular race, religion, gender, species, belief system or culture is superior to others and entitles those who identify with it to dominate, control or rule those who do not. Examples include supremacism based on ethnic or anthropological origins (white supremacy, black supremacy, ethnocentrism), sexuality (male supremacy, female supremacy), sentience (human supremacy, alien supremacy) and religion." (Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racial_superiority). For some reason, many people out there believe that they are better than others simply because of where they come from, how much money they have, what religion they belong to, or even the color of their skin, which brings us to the following:

Racism is the belief that race is a significant determinant of human traits and capacities and those racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race. (Source: Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary). There are many traits that some people of certain races have that differentiate them from other races. These traits can vary from skin color, height, hair color, eye color, build, etc. These are all physical aspects that make the world we live I so interesting. Imagine if we were all blond-haired and blue eyed, or all black-haired and brown eyed. I imagine it would be pretty boring. The fact that we are all different makes this world a heck of a lot more interesting, and it also helps us learn from each other. Even scientists have come up with theories that define intelligence and abilities based upon the size of a persons' head. These theories have never produced one ounce of validity, and should never be considered in any decision regarding someone's future.

This brings us to the question as to whether or not race should be considered for college admissions. To consider the race of a human being as a factor in determining a college admission is racist in itself. Any college that decides to base their admissions based on race could be denying the next Albert Einstein, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, Michelangelo, Martin Luther King Jr., Diego Rivera, Pablo Neruda, Pel, Maria Callas, etc., a great future. Not to mention the great loss suffered by humanity if it were not for all of these people, and many more like them.

We as humans have much to learn and much to hope for. We should never let racism influence our lives as many did in the past and do today. As Nelson Mandela said, "After climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb."
