I suggest small to medium pets in an apartment living situation. Always check the lease before you sign it. specially if you already have a pet to see if one is allowed. If not you will have to keep looking. There are apartment owner's out there that love animals. A pet deposit will most probably be required.
Here are some suggestions on how to take care of a small dog or a cat in an apartment living situation.
(1) Keep plenty of fresh food and water daily supplied in clean bowls. Wash the bowls carefully with soapy water and rinse well. This will help keep the pet free from germs. Treats are always welcomed and some have vitamins added now. These will be nice and tasty to give the pet for good behavior. Treats can also help with training your pet.
(2) Exercise is great for your pet. It will keep the animal strong and healthy. Walking on a leash is the best way to get outside and have some fun. Have a collar on your pet and up to date tags. A cat can be walked but it takes a little more time and patience to teach it how. You will get exercise also along with your pet. Some cities have dog parks that let dogs run free and play with other dogs. Look for one of these to try you and your dog may love it.
(3) Toys are wonderful for your pet to play with. Chew ropes, rubber chew animals, squeaky toys and a rubber ball will keep the pet occupied and not bored. Spend quality time by playing with your pet. You both will love it.
(4)If you work and or away for a few hours a day put down a pet training pad. These pads are for your pet to use to eliminate on. They are disposable and make clean up much easier. They are especially needed if you have a young puppy or kitten. You can find these at your local pet shop.
(5) Have a pet sitter lined up just in case you need to go out of town. Ask a friend or family member to look in on your pet. That way they can feed and water your pet. And if possible spend time with it so it won't be so lonely because pet's do miss you. A dog may howl and a cat may meow awfully loud. You don't want neighbor's complaining to the landlord. If you can't find anyone to volunteer look for a pet sitting service in the yellow pages. Be sure to leave a contact phone number in case of any emergency. Also leave your veterinarian's office phone number.
Enjoy your pet and you will both be happy for a long time. Take care of your pet ,love it and it will always love you unconditionally.
