In my opinion, I think hummingbirds are probably one of the coolest birds that live in this part of the country and I just love to look at them and watch the colorful little birds fly all around my yard and collect nectar from all of my flowers and other plants, but one of the challenges just to watch hummingbirds is how to get them to come into your yard, so, I am going to tell you some of the tricks that might be helpful to you when you are trying to attract hummingbirds.

Since there are so many different things that you can try to do to attract hummingbirds that, when I was finished telling you them all, I would probably have used up about three or four pieces of paper, so, I will only tell you a couple of them, and the ones that are most effective to attract hummingbirds, one of the ways is to, plant some of the many flowers that hummingbirds like to take nectar from such as: bee balm, Agastacha cana, Cleame, Digitalis (fox glove), Holly hock, Kniphofia, Lobelia, Lychnis chalcedonica, Penstemon, Salvia (Sage), Scarlet Runner Bean, and Zinnia. These are all great flowers that, will probably attract lots and lots of hummingbirds for you and your family to watch and enjoy!

If you do attract hummingbirds, then you will see what I mean about them being a really cool bird because, they are very, very fast, they barely ever stop flapping there wings, and they barely stand on there feet because there feet are not meant to be stood on very often, and they are very colorful but, most of the hummingbirds like the ones that have the purple and blue on them, are in the southern part of the country but, we occasionally have some pretty cool ones up in the northern part, but not very often. Another great thing about hummingbirds is, if you are very quiet and do not spook them, they might stand on your finger and drink the nectar. Hummingbirds drink the nectar by, sticking out there tongue and slurping up the nectar into there mouths, so, if you think hummingbirds are pretty cool animals, and you want them in your yard, then you should plant some of the flowers above and start watching the hummingbirds buzz into your yard!

Another great way to attract hummingbirds is to make hummingbird food and put it out in a feeder for the hummingbirds to eat. This is how our family does it: we go to the store and buy a hummingbird feeder, next we mix three parts water with one part sugar, then we hang the mixture out on our deck for the hummingbirds to eat. NEVER put food coloring or honey into the mix, because it could make the hummingbirds sick or even kill them.

After about one week you should always take the feeder in your house to clean it otherwise, mold could grow on it and make the hummingbirds sick. I hope this article was very helpful to you and that you have lots of hummingbirds come into your yard so you can enjoy them!
