toward the world, looking back just as Lot's wife did and losing their moral bearings as well as their closeness to God. God cannot stand sin, and He abhors those who take Him, His Word, His Son and His standards lightly.
Then we have the other end of the spectrum: the legalist! This person has set up a list of rules and regulations he or she expects everyone to follow. Just as the Saducees and Pharasees of Jesus time, they pay more attention to the letter of the law than the spirit of the law and create a climate of fear wherein morality involves following a bunch of man-made rules. Morality, living a moral life, should happen in the life of the Christian, not because it's a rule or out of fear, it should happen because the Christian loves God and wants to please Him.
The only fix for this problem involves getting back to Biblical basics. Christians must dive in and explore the Bible, spending quality time getting to know God and His Word. It is only when the light of the Word shines upon our lives that we realize just how far our morals have slipped. Only then will our seared consciences kick in and remind us why we have chosen to follow our God. Trusting our own minds, often tainted by worldly values, only leads us to moral misunderstandings. Trusting God and His Word leads us to a life lived to please God: a life of moral uprightness and character, as we strive to please the one who gave His life for us.
