RESPECT begets  respect. In other words, if you sow respect you will reap the same. Now, how are you going to demonstrate respect at work? Well, there are many ways to demonstrate respect. Here is a list of what I know  the best way to demonstrate respect.

1. Be KIND AND COURTEOUS- in all your dealings with the people around you specially in the work place. One way of being courteous is, Listen! when somebody is talking. Do not interrupt, wait for the other person to finish what he has to say before you say something. Most people are not courteous to others especially  to the person who is in lower rank.  Heads and supervisors must show courtesy even to the least in the rank  so that their subordinates will follow their example.

2. ASK PERMISSION- if you want to use the things that don't belong to you. It is very important that permission would be granted before you use certain objects or anything that belongs to someone or belongs to the company where you work. Don't just grab anything as if you owned it . Permission must be granted before using anything that does not belong to you.

3. BE TACTFUL, AVOID HARSH AND INSULTING WORDS- in dealing with people in your work place. There is always time that you won't agree with the ideas of your co-workers. Avoid insulting words when saying your views in certain area. If you are tactful, you will also earn respect from others. They will also do the same to you.

4. AVOID GOSSIPING AND BACKBITING- keep confidential matters a sensitive thing that needs to be kept in the right place. Avoid sharing confidential things to others. That is one way of showing respect to the concerned individuals. It is a fact that some workers have their own circle of friends in the work place and they sometimes have their own time talking against other individuals, avoid joining them. Set a good example not to say anything against your co-workers. Hold your tongue, that is the best way to be safe and earned the respect of others.

5. DON'T DISCRIMINATE- People in the work place come from different backgrounds, cultures and races. Do not discriminate. Treat all people the same. No special treatment because he/she comes from the elite family and others are just common people in the community, you will give special treatment to the elite? That is not fair. You must treat everybody equal  no matter who he/she is.

If we will apply these things in our area of work, we can make a difference in the lives of other people in our work place.
