Can you really make money online?

by Mike Gibson

Yes! I make my living online and will give you an easy way to get started. You won't make a living this way but you can earn some substantial extra money! This involves finding merchandise at thrift stores to sell on Craigslist.

The great thing about Craigslist is that there are no fees to pay - so you get to keep every cent you sell your item for. It's also a little faster and easier to list your items on Craigslist than eBay - there is just a blank page to enter basic info into a you are allowed up to 4 photos.

The downside of Craislist is that it is more hands-on - you will need to meet with your customers in person, take cash, and probably handle some phone calls. The major downside of Craigslist is that your pretty much limited to your town (which for people like me who live in a small town, this can reduce your # of potential customers).

The real strength of selling on Craigslist is that you can sell LARGE items easily. Since your selling to someone local, you don't have to worry about shipping your product. This is where my new thrift store strategy comes in...

For the past month or so, I have been flipping furniture. It's a little more work than my other online money making methods but it can pay off quite well. If your interested in flipping furniture I have 2 suggestions to consider before you begin:

1. Do you have a truck or van or know someone who does who will help you pick-up your furniture? If you do, do you have someone who can help you unload it once you get it home?
2. Do you have a room to store furniture before it sells? A garage or extra room is great, if you really get involved with it you may want to rent a storage unit.

If you meet those 2 suggestions and want to look for furniture, here is what I have been doing....

PRICE - Since furniture is a lot of work to buy and sell... you want each piece to make a nice profit. I want to at least triple my investment and at worst case double it. I've found that the sweet spot price wise is $25 - if you pay $25 for a piece of furniture you shouldn't have any problem selling it for a profit. I've found that the sweet spot for selling furniture is $50 - if you price a peice of furniture at $50, you won't have any problem selling it. I wouldn't sell a piece for $50 unless it's been listed for awhile and not selling and you need the space... even in this worst-case-scenario you've doubled your $25 to $50! Hint... most people shopping at thrift stores are not looking to spend very much
