How to deal with RUDE people is a very tough thing to do when you don't want to be appear rude also. But I have been into this type of experience at work., in the mall, in the grocery store, everywhere. The most hard part is when that person is in your work place where you can see him/her every day. That is a very challenging situation. But I learned ways on how to deal with them because I have lots of these kind in my work place.
These are the few things I do.
BE KIND TO THEM- although it is very hard to be kind to people who are rude but it works because they will pay respect on me and not be rude when I deal with them in a kind way even if they are displaying their rude attitude. As if they felt awkward when they see that I am still kind even if they are rude. I know It takes a lot of self control to do this, but I made it in my work place.
IGNORE THEM- There are times that ignoring them would work because they will stop their display when no body pays attention to them. The problem with people who are rude is that, they need attention. They want to play a lead role of whatever circumstances because they want to be recognized. This is the very reason why they want to make a scene. In one word they are insecure and they want other people's approval without realizing that they are doing the opposite thing. And when you ignore them, they will come to their senses and would stop to be rude.
APPRECIATE THEIR GOOD SIDE- All people have good side even the rudest of all men on earth, he has his good side. The best thing to do is to focus on their good side, forget a while their being rude. Pay attention to their good side and learn to appreciate it. I have done that to one of my co -workers. I appreciate his good taste of art and everything I have seen good in him, I give importance. Then he started to be kind to me. He is not rude anymore just to me because I learned to appreciate him and he pays respect for that. In fact we became good friends. He never become rude to me. So, I believe, being appreciative to the good side of a rude person would help him improve his attitude.
OFFER HELP EVEN IF THEY DON'T ASK- There are people who are embarrass to ask help specially if they feel that everybody around don't like them because they are rude to everyone. Rude people can feel that everybody around don't like them so, if you.. who want to deal nicely to the rude ones, offer help when you think they really need it but they don't ask. This would make them realize that somebody still care even if everybody shun at them. This would help them improve their attitude. I know it is hard to do this but this really works to stop their being rude. I tried this to one of my rude co-worker. she is very annoying in many ways but it does changed her.
TELL THEM STRAIGHT BUT KINDLY- about their attitude and how people around them feel about it. Telling them in a friendly way would help them improve rather than insulting them. Harsh words would make things worst. By insulting them, you are also displaying a rude attitude and it wouldn't help either way. . So, the best thing to do is to tell them in a kind way what other people around them feel about their being rude in the work place. This would also apply to people in public places whom you do business or you come in contact with.. Tell them in a kind manner about their attitude.
