four hundred word articles. Now my articles are at least six hundred words long and are usually placed in the top five positions. In another week, I would have spent two years at Helium. These two years have seen me through five months as a homemaker and tutor to my son, and another 19 months as a part time teacher, a tutor, a volunteer abroad and a steward at Helium.com.
In these two years, I have written to as many channels as I dared venture and I have also recently taken part in writing contests again. I have learnt to grow a thick skin for these contests. I write to win, but I write for quality, not for quantity. I write to develop a writing momentum and not to outdo others. I figured out that even if I did not win any monetary prizes, I was already a winner as I would have added more articles to my account.
I used to feel that I have given much monetary gains to be a writer and to be there for my son but as I near two years being away from a full time job, I realize I have been enriched in so many ways that money can never buy. Little surprises through winning contests I never thought possible and having articles sold reassure me time and again that I have chosen the right path. The write path is indeed the path I would choose again, if I had to rewrite history.
I have since ventured into other websites to write but my staple writing diet is still at Helium.com. And my content at other websites is about my writing experience at Helium.com. There are many more frontiers to explore and writing has given me an opportunity to document my adventures in life. I will definitely develop my voice at Helium.com - there is no other way, I would have loved to live the past two years.
