She had to get outside. The oppressive stench from all the chemicals they had been working with all day in the lab were parching her throat making it ache. This was too much for her, she concluded, especially after Apollo started coughing uncontrollably. Even though Apollo was a Class A10 android, his built-in vetro-dominion chips allowed him to exhibit many human characteristics, not all of them pleasant.

Meridian chuckled to herself as she made her way to the fresh afternoon air. An A10 was the best. He was her companion, protector, and even more than that, her friend. All these years on this remote little planet called Earth, she would not have been able to get along without him, she decided. He had found her in the Blaham Forest on Callador, her head split wide open with death clouding in on her. He had forced life back into her, by nursing her after secretly implanting one of his own medu-pon chips in her head to repair the damage. When Callador was free of the Tyrrany, she had in turn saved him from the Masters who would have been happy to make a pile of metal shavings out of him.

Apollo knew that some day he would have to tell her of the implant, but for now he thought only of her temporal beauty as his mind wandered to thoughts of her dark brown hair alight with fiery red highlights that fell in thick abandon past her slender waist in unruly waves, covering
