Poetry: Truth

TRUTH HURTS

We close our eyes

and shield ourselves

in lies as time slips by.

Our seeds concede that

crime pays. These days,

no one is amazed when

guns blaze and sunrays

give way to moonbeams

bringing streams of red

where dreams are dead

and heads are split for

threads and kicks.

A junkie's fix, a deadly

mix, we're stuck within

corrupt with sin. Shots

ride the wind as sirens

wail with sordid tails of

morbid hell, Where violence

swells silence prevails

and prison cells are profitable

investments never positive

correction, where pistols

and weapons are probable

suggestions for protection

further spreading infection

and insurrection throughout

our city streets. It's deep

how they keep us apart,

telling us it's weak to

speak from the heart. Most

can't see through the dark.

I avoid beef and still catch

heat when I talk, but keep

peace in my walk despite

repeated remarks and hot

tempers. When the truth bites,

the dog barks and whimpers.
