The Psychic Hotline phenomenon really saw its emergence in the 80's with the advent of 1-900 numbers but consulting psychics is not a new concept: spirit boards were popular in the Victorian Era, the middle ages saw the advent of seers used by royalty prior to making major decisions (Augurs were employed by the Roman Kings and used orinthomancy, or bird's flight patterns, as a form of divining) and pre-Christian civilizations consulted Oracles.
Today, we have psychics like famed Sylvia Brown, palm readers, tarot card readers and a plethora of other famous and local psychics that people can consult for personal or business purposes. But, are these psychics honest and genuine or is it all bunk? That question will probably never have an answer that suits everyone, so a better question to ask would be should a person consult a psychic.
Perhaps the biggest reason a person consults a psychic is for the purpose of finding love. Finding love is a tricky thing with a multitude of success stories of which no two are the same. The biggest key to finding love is to be open to it and receptive when it comes. If a psychic tells a customer romance is in the air it can give that person confidence and security, make them feel they have something to offer, and are worthy of being loved. It may only be psychosomatic, like telling a child a band-aid makes the hurt stop or a sugar pill to a hypochondriac, but it works. Relationships and love require a person to be open to it and willing to accept a relationship when it comes around, to recognize love when it emerges and to act on it. If consulting a psychic has caused this to happen then the customer has benefited form it.
Divining or scrying for the future (either independently or through the talents of a psychic) is not meant to be specific such as at two on a Monday a man in a blue uniform will approach you but rather to be advice about the future. A psychic can guide a customer in a particular direction or advise a person as to what may happen if they continue on that path (for example, a person involved in a love triangle has a certain destiny as an end result). Consulting a psychic is like turning to a friend for advice, except this friend is unbiased as to the end results and has a talent for predicting future outcomes.
A person should never act irrationally, out of character or make snap judgments based on a psychic's advice but instead think logically about the advice or predictions given.
