Perfecting the Perfected
Anybody that doesn't live in a cave miles below the surface of the earth knows what Google (GOOG) is, and more than likely uses it several times daily. Upon hearing that Microsoft (MSFT) was unveiling it's competition, Bing, one can't help but be skeptical. Google after all has not only become a staple on the World Wide Web, but it has easily been injected into our current pop culture. So, why would Microsoft dare enter this sacred ground?
People tell me that Bing is supposed to be better than Google. Better? How is that even possible? I remember seeing Google's stock rise astronomically as I wished I had even one share of their company. Now they sit atop in their thrones on high as if looking upon all other search engines with pity. I recently paid a lengthy visit to Bing and played around with it. The backgrounds are ever changing and often quite beautiful. But we all know that appearance isn't everything.
Gone is the simplistic same-today-as-it-was-ten-years -ago appearance of Google. The site is is clean, tidy, and unique. It certainly is trying to stand out against such harsh competition. Microsoft wants to do something that Google and Yahoo (YHOO) have never done before. Which stands to question, what haven't they done?
Bing offers live search that basically gives you the ability to find pages moments after being released. It also has a very handy travel feature that, upon trying, gave me several options for amazing airline deals that I had not found in earlier searches on similar sites. On top of that, the ease of finding videos is superb. Not only does it provide what you want, but it does it right there on the Bing site. No need to wander off into uncharted territory; Microsoft has you covered.
We're talking about the same company that revolutionized the way we see and interact with computers. Their line of Windows products, along with their essential office software has made them top dog for years. This perhaps is seemingly new territory, but doesn't every top dog want to be the best in all things, and not just some things? That is precisely what this company is doing. They are reaching their feelers into new depths and are so far doing an excellent job.
Just as Twitter and Facebook, two of the the webs top networking sites, have done, Bing looks like it is on its way to make an impact on the cool and hip generation. The same generation that uses Macs as a fashion statement and tweets about the most insignificant things. Yes, that generation will certainly grasp Microsoft's vision of what seems to be a fine search engine that can do just about anything.
