If mom believes she can take care of her child and her work load than absolutely take your child to work with you. There is a great reward for mothers to have their child at their side. Likewise it is a great reward for a child to be next to their mothers - parents have a special bond with their child that no one can ever replace.
By taking your child to work with you, you don't have to miss out on the "firsts" - first walk, first crawl, first words such as "momma". Unfortunately through no fault of their own, too many moms have to miss out on this and they hear about it second hand from the babysitters or caregivers of their children. This adds a feeling of inadequacy for the mom (even though it's not their fault - they must work to earn a living).
Sometimes the child gets confused as to who their mother really is but when you take your child to work with you this helps to eliminate that confusion and gives your child stability - letting your child know that mom will always be their when you need her.
As your child grows up by your side he or she will begin to have an appreciation for your work. They will begin to know when they can ask you a question, they learn how to interact with people and not just kids their own age but, adults as well.
Your child will learn how to have an actual conversation with your co-workers and clients. You may even be surprised that at the early age of 8 years old, just by watching you, your child will even know how to answer the phone correctly and politely.
Another good quality that you will instill in your child, especially your daughter is that everyone works - even women.
Believe it or not by a mother bringing her child to work with her she is establishing good work habits that her child will carry to school and college.
Now on the down side if your work is suffering- not getting things done on time or doing a below average job than, you probably should not take your child to work with you. You are getting paid to perform a job.
Or if your child is not following proper etiquette such as not running or being rude to co- workers than, you might want to keep your child out of the work place and consider daycare. When a child is running rapidly through the work place it makes it a very stressful situation for everyone especially your child.
My daughter has been at my side from the time she was three months old and I see me in her. You will begin to see you in your child as well. This is the great joy for having your child by your side.
