In recent days, the nation has watched the tone of President Barack Obama's speeches turn apologetic, and some of us ask why? What possible purpose is there in all this apologizing? We have elected officials, laws and various other checks and balances that prevent us from making mistakes, and yet mistakes are made.
They are made by other nations also, so no one truly has the answer to perfect government. There is an expectation by citizens that government will make mistakes and hindsight decisions are always easier, so why apologize? Apologies to Native Americans, African Americans, Japanese Americans, Hawaiians and Muslims, do nothing to prevent our next infraction and we all know it.
As one of the most powerful nations on the planet, we are not well-liked. No matter how many apologies we make, our popularity will not change. The other nations and their peoples put up with us because we are simply too big and too powerful. The one country that truly does have us to a disadvantage is China. I'm not sure what we could apologize to them for, but we definitely need to keep them on our good side. They number more, we owe them plenty and of course, the United States was mean to our Chinese immigrants.
If you're going to make apologies, this, at least, would be an apology that would get us something besides snickering and short, wannabe macho dictators laughing at our elected President.
To date, what is astounding is the apology to Muslims. No other nation on this planet holds an individuals right to religious freedom in so high a regard. We have turned our own nation upside down because we have allowed the separation of church and state edict to take prayer out of our schools and to take down memorials and monuments that give thanks to God.
So, what exactly are we apologizing to Muslims for? Next we're going to apologize to witches for the Salem witch trials. What about apologizing to Mormons for outlawing polygamy? If we work real hard, we can find something to apologize to everyone for, and then maybe everyone will like us and stop hijacking planes to fly into our skyscrapers.
Let's get real. Iran's President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, isn't going to hear one of these apologies and suddenly think, "Boy that Barack Obama is just so sincere, I think I'll be nice, cause I wanna be just like him."
When President Obama finishes apologizing to everyone for the existence of the United States, what about another apology to those of us who still believe that we should be one nation under God. There are also those of us who don't care whether the rest of the world likes us, that is why we have made ourselves one of the baddest countries on the planet, and we are not offering any apologies for it.
