Energy drinks comparison tests

by John Finken

Created on: June 25, 2009

Everybody has at some time or another tried an energy drink. A lot of people, like me, drink them at least once a week. But the question is which energy drink in particular is the best? I'm going to rate 5 different brands' 'original' energy drink on a scale of 1-5, Five being the best. I will not be considering the amount of Energy Blend in the products.

1) Amp Energy. While Amp isn't bad tasting, I feel it is the worst out of the 5. I personally like smoother drinks, and Amp is extremely carbonated. This makes it hard to drink. Also, the taste could easily be improved by giving it more flavor. Through the carbonation, it tastes like there isn't much flavor there. There is also a strong bitter aftertaste, which I don't think anybody favors.

2) Rockstar Energy. While this has nearly the same carbonation level as Amp, it is definitely better overall. It has a stronger, more concentrated taste. While an unpleasant aftertaste still lingers, it is more tolerable. Amp and Rockstar are the closest in comparison out of all this list, but there is still enough of a difference to make a definite decision.

3) NOS. I drink NOS often because it is on a whole different taste level than Amp and Rockstar. It has a very different taste than Rockstar and Amp. It has a little bit stronger of a taste and is a little smoother than it's predecessors. This drink is also available in shots, which I recommend you try if you haven't.

4) Monster. Monster is the most common energy drink that I drink. It comes in 16 oz cans just like all of the previous drinks, and it has quite a few different variations, such as M-80, Khaos, and Mixxd, to name a few. It has an amazing taste that is almost addicting. It has a strong citrus taste that will stay pleasantly in your mouth for a while after each drink. Monster is also available in shots.

5) Red Bull. Red Bull is my favorite energy drink. Although it comes in small cans, so you get less product for your money, it is more than worth it. It is the smoothest energy drink I've ever had, and it's amazingly refreshing. I cannot put it's taste into words so I encourage you to go buy one for less than two dollars. Just like Monster, it leaves you feeling good and with a pleasant aftertaste in your mouth. I'm probably drinking one right now, as you read this. If you're going to buy an energy drink, get a Red Bull. You won't be disappointed.
