Ways to save water at home

With extreme climate changes being experienced every day all around the world, water is becoming a rare commodity. Some countries are either faced with major drought problems or are on the brink of it. The effects of this problem can be reduced, but it requires a combined effort from everyone to change their habits. So what I would like to show you is some simple inexpensive methods that you can use in order to conserve water.

Turn off the tap when your finish using it. This is one of the main problem people tend to overlook. Make it a practice in your household that, one must double check themselves after using the tap.

Fix all leaking taps and toilet bowls. You can waste up to 200 gallons of water a month, just by neglecting these problems. Contact a qualified plumber to resolve any leaking pipes around your house, if you believe you're not capable to handle it. But if you're an adventurous, do-it-yourself type of person, then I would advise that you check out the Internet or even the library for literature on proper plumbing solutions. These problems, if not handled properly, can be very disastrous and can cost you a lot of money in the long run.

Ration your bathing water, when taking a bath use a bucket or a tub of water each time. This will allow for you to become more discipline in your bathing habits. And for those guys, who leave the water on when shaving, make sure to turn off the tap when you're not using it.

Try to re-use water around the house. This recycled water, for example, which was used to do the laundry, can be used to flush the toilet or even be used outside around the house.

Install an instant water heater to your kitchen sink. These water heaters, heat up the water immediately, thereby, eliminating the loss of water that would accrue while waiting on the water to heat up with the conventional water heater.

Collect rain water. With this simple method you can have access to a large volume of water that can be utilized in many day to day activities, for example, rain water can be a great source of water for cleaning the yard and watering the lawn. So try to collect as much as you can when the rains comes again; it will go a long way in conserving water.

As you will see above, these methods are very easy and inexpensive to do. And once you get into this practice, you will realize that it will become like second nature to you. So go on and start saving water today.
