Peter Hawkins is a football defender, currently playing for Maidstone United in the Ryman Premier League. Hawkins has been with Maidstone since January 2009, initially on loan from Ebbsfleet United, but has since officially signed for Maidstone after being released by Ebbsfleet.
Hawkins was actually born in Maidstone, and his first club as a professional footballer was to be Wimbledon. Hawkins played for Wimbledon for eight years between 1996 and 2004, and became a first team regular for the side after successfully spending time out on loan with York City in 2000. Hawkins went on to make 120 league appearances for Wimbledon, improving hugely as a player during this period. He really did impress in defence, and only left the club in 2004 when Wimbledon ceased to exist, and the club was renamed and rebranded as MK Dons.
Hawkins next club after leaving Wimbledon was to be Rushden & Diamonds, and he played for Rushden for two years before again deciding to move on. 62 league appearances Hawkins made during his Rushden spell, again impressing many with his performances. Hawkins always looked assured in defence, and this therefore led to him becoming a very popular player during his first 18 months with the club; towards the end he was less wanted in the team though, and after several months without first team football this therefore prompted him to leave in search of regular football.
Ebbsfleet United was Hawkins next destination, a club he'd turn out for on more than 100 occasions over the course of the next two and a half seasons. Hawkins won the FA Trophy with Ebbsfleet in 2008, and continued to show great strength as a defender. At the start of 2009 he moved on again though, and Maidstone United was now to be his club as he joined the side on loan.
Initially only on a one-month loan, Hawkins impressed hugely for Maidstone, and this therefore prompted the side to sign him on a permanent basis when his Ebbsfleet contract expired at the end of the 2008/09 campaign. Peter Hawkins is now a player on Maidstone United's books, and along with Roland Edge; Maidstone now has two hugely impressive defenders with a huge depth of experience in football.
Peter Hawkins is a part of a very impressive non-league football side at Maidstone, and at the age of 30 is still showing fantastic strength as a player, and proving to all that he is still an incredibly talented football defender.
