Jack Payne is a professional footballer, currently playing for Gillingham in League One of English football. Payne became a first year apprentice with Gillingham at the start of the 2008/09 season, and the 17 year-old midfielder has already made a cracking start for the club.

Currently contracted to remain with Gillingham until at least summer 2010, Jack Payne is a very talented young footballer, and has in his first season with Gillingham put in some absolutely exceptional performances for the reserves. As well as making his mark in the reserves; Payne has also cracked the first team, coming on twice as a substitute throughout the season. His first year as a professional has been excellent, and Payne no doubt has an exciting career ahead of him in football.

Payne was voted Gillingham's Young Player of the Year at the end of the 2008/09 season, and although technically a midfielder; the young player can also fill in as a defender if required. He's a multi-talented player, and moving forward into the future; Jack Payne is surely a player that is going to achieve a lot in his career.

Jack Payne was only 16 when he made his Gillingham debut against Chester City in October 2008; he didn't look out of his depth in League Two though, and was able to hold his own against vastly more experienced players. He's only young, already he's learnt a lot about the game however, and is fast developing to become an absolutely fantastic footballer.

It's not often that young talent can be found as excellent as Jack Payne; Payne really is a hugely talented footballer though, and is a player for Gillingham to be very proud of. It wouldn't be too surprising if a big club came in with a huge offer for Jack Payne before long; Gillingham is the club for which Jack Payne currently plays however, and the team with which he is currently progressing and improving. Gillingham manager Mark Stimson really seems to be getting the best out of Jack Payne, and it's only a matter of time before Jack Payne will be ready to play regular first team football.

There are a lot of talented youngsters on the Gillingham books right now, and Jack Payne happens to be one of them. He's already rising up strongly through the ranks, and as he's still only 17; the best is surely yet to come, and it really will be interesting to see just how brilliant Jack Payne can become in the future.
