Poetry: Weather

by Joseph C. Alkire

Created on: June 24, 2009

Fire and Ice, Fire and Ice.

Your epic is without age.

I'm gripped by winters' frozen vice

and the heat of summers rage.

The autumn leaves are perfectly adorned.

A chilling coolness stirs up the air.

By trying to stay warmly dressed,

my heart succombs to winters' despair.

I sit closely by my fireplace

to heat these bones of old.

And covering my tired frozen feet

from the awesome bitter cold.

With hands all frosted over,

shivering in this icy form.

I shift the position of my chair

in desparation to keep warm.

The fragrance of spring is refreshing.

Budding flowers so far and near.

Birds singing their sweet melodies.

The torments of summer I fear.

My skin is dry and scorched.

The mind barely able to think.

Trying to soothe these sun parched lips.

Endless searching for a drop to drink.

The sun is fiercely blinding.

No shade to hide my grief.

Clouds that give hope and form overhead

only dissipate without bringing relief.

Fire and Ice, Fire and Ice.

How different be your name.

Tho' the heart is never satisfied.

The extremes are just the same.
