Educating the drinker on the dangers of drunk driving

of 2006. An alarming thirty six percent of these fatalities involved drivers who were under the drinking age of 21 (MADD.com, 2007). These numbers are incredibly high, and do not even account for the thousands of injuries that occur each year due to alcohol related traffic accidents. This many deaths should show sufficient evidence to what a great danger driving under the influence of alcohol is.

The consumption of any kind of alcoholic beverage impairs your judgment, and impairs your reaction time. Alcohol consumption also may cause dizziness, or drowsiness. The effects of alcohol consumption makes any task, even a seemingly remedial task such as driving a vehicle difficult to do. This increases your risk of being involved in a traffic accident causing injury to yourself, or others. In many alcohol related traffic accidents the driver is so impaired the accident causes death to the driver, or other passengers. These accidents also often take the lives of innocent victims. Even in cases where death does not occur due to the accident, the results are often tragic, causing paralysis to the victims.

Being behind the wheel of a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol is not only stupid, it is also very dangerous and illegal. If you drive under the influence of alcohol it is almost guaranteed that you will face very steep consequences. Driving under the influence not only puts yourself at risk of death, or injury, but also endangers the lives of others around you. If you do not refrain from drinking and driving for yourself, do it for the innocent by standers who may suffer the consequences of your actions. If you would like to learn more about the dangers of driving while under the influence of alcohol or if you would like to learn more about the DUI laws in your state you can visit MADD.com, or visit your states alcohol awareness web site.
