Alan Julian is a professional footballer, currently playing for Gillingham in League One of English football. Julian has been with Gillingham since May 2008, signing for the club on a free transfer from Stevenage Borough. Gillingham manager Mark Stimson was previously at Stevenage, and rated Julian highly enough to bring him to Gillingham with him when he got the chance.

Julian actually began his career with Brentford, and was with the club from 2000 until 2005. He made 16 appearances for the club over the course of his time there, before finally moving on when Graham Westley gave him a chance with Stevenage, offering him a trial with the club. Alan Julian officially signed for Stevenage in January 2005, and was with the club right up until joining Gillingham in May 2008.

Whilst playing for Stevenage, Alan Julian would really make a name for himself as a goalkeeper, and racked up 141 league appearances for the club. Always reliable in the goal; Julian was actually voted Stevenage's player of the season for the 2005/06 campaign, and was enjoying some very fine football for the club. Julian has six times been capped at Under-21 level for Northern Ireland, and still only 26 years-old; I'm sure that Alan Julian will continue to achieve fantastic footballing success in the future.

Alan Julian truly is an excellent goalkeeper, and although not currently first choice at Gillingham; he does provide excellent back-up for first choice keeper Simon Royce, and fills in well when required. Julian has been on the bench a lot of the time at Gillingham, Simon Royce is 37 years-old now though, so looking forward to the future; Alan Julian will no doubt get his chance to shine, and to prove himself properly for Gillingham.

Julian has excellent experience in the non-league of English football, and as well as being provided with four league starts for Gillingham last season; Julian was also given a chance in the cups, making one appearance in both the FA Cup, and League Cup also. Alan Julian is definitely a player for the future, and if he can work his way into the Gillingham first team and establish himself as the side's first choice goalkeeper then there's always a chance that Alan Julian could be recalled to Northern Irish international fray.

Alan Julian is most definitely a very talented goalkeeper, and Gillingham FC is very lucky to have such an excellent goalkeeper in reserve. Three clean sheets were kept by Alan Julian in the 2008/09 season, and I'm sure that there'll be many more of those to come from him in the future.
