Linking Tarot's Magician with Mercury

It is in exploring connections such as these that we come to accept the improbable, fantastic and otherworldly. It is in reaching-out with our instincts and base curiosities that we discover and ultimately conduct the higher powers of the universe. It is only with faith that we may bridge the spans of known and previously not conceived of.

The shamans of this world practice these explorations daily and without hesitation. Divine knowledge is sought fervently so that it might be shared with those that seek guidance through life. And for those who quest for an awareness extending beyond their physical surroundings, the paths to revelation are those most traveled.

These magicians have seen many changes since the earliest evidence of their existence. Their tools, tribes, objectives and names have varied along history's time-line and into present day where we are most familiar with them as psychics. Even in today's society, we can still associate these intuitive individuals with the past labels of: fortune-teller, soothsayer, mystic, witch. Some of these words seem to illicit the immediate response of cynicism; of mild unbelief at best. We seem to need convincing before we might take that journey, before we offer our faith to another so that we might be navigated a bit closer to the truths that linger just below the surface of things.

Mercury, the planet closest to our sun is a messenger in both Mythology and Astrology. As a messenger, the main function associated with this planet is communication. Whether verbal, written or visually conveyed; whether unconscious or conscious, Mercury commands that we birth our thoughts into form. Curiosity is what propels the energy of Mercury to find and explore conduits both physical and metaphysical. Magnificent in its need to know, Mercurial power exudes a presence in both the houses and signs of Astrology.

Mercury-ruled souls hold both positive and negative shades of this influence. On the positive side, they are versatile, inquisitive and inspired. On the opposite side, they can be overly technical, nervous and indecisive. Fluctuation in any case proves to be a foundation of their personalities. Change is a truth of life and one that can not be ignored. Mercurians have the ability to adapt and re-adapt making them sometimes appear as having magical qualities.
