A plus-sized girl's guide to flattering fashion looks

It is often deceptive to think that in the world of fashion; most of the clothing caters only to pint sized girls. Dressing well and looking good need not mean that we should aim to look like the fashion models. Knowing what to wear and what looks good in you is the key to flattering fashion looks. This is true irrespective of whether you are pint sized or plus sized.

Many plus sized girls fall into the trap of trying to do whatever they can to look like fashion models. Most get frustrated and develop low self esteem when they fail. There is no need to be as thin as fashion models to look fantastic. Acceptance of our body shape and knowing what clothes will enhanced our looks will help you increase your self confidence and self esteem.

There are many styles that will suit plus sized girls. Hiding inside frumpy and baggy clothing does not do justice to plus sized girls. Being plus sized doesn't mean that the choice of fashion style is limited. In fact, one of the best way to dress and enhanced our looks are; we should dress according to our body shape.

Dressing correctly to your body shape will help enhance your looks and open doors to more fashion style. You can find out your body shape by asking your friends or through body shape books such as Trinny and Susannah Body Shape Bible where you can find out if you are a Skittle, Goblet, Hourglass, Cornet, Apple, Column, Vase or a Pear.

Here are some examples of fashion style for different body shape. If you are apple shape, that is, top heavy, avoid wearing clothes that will cover right up to your neck. Showing off your neckline with a V neck collar will flatter your body shape. Avoid low rise trousers for pear shaped body as it draws attention to the hip.

Avoid clothes with loud colours or have too many prints as they are usually not very flattering. Mixed prints with solid colours to mellow the outfit. Whenever possible, go with one colour as it creates an illusion of length.

Choose your accessories carefully. Do not go for small necklace, earrings or bracelet as it will draw attention to your body size.

Long and flowing garments usually create an illusion of length and it gently accentuates your body's curve.

Next time when you go for clothes shopping, look out for clothes that are suitable for your body shape. Be adventurous even if they are not what you would normally wear. You will be surprised of a whole new world of fashion style made for you.
