Reading body language is actually less difficult than you might imagine for those who are observant and aware of others. Step away from being observant, and the dilemmas which present themselves become exaggerated. Is she showing signs of interest? Is he bored? Does she really want to go out with me? All of these can be gaged by body language though to understand the nuances of body language, you first have to learn to read the signs.
*Signs of boredom.
If you observe people when you talk, look at the manner in which they respond. Often people are too busy talking and wrapped up in their subject to notice the responses they get. In a social situation, being able to read these signs is vital. Do you get a response which carries on the flow of the conversation? Are their eye movements avoiding you?
Do they keep playing with their hands. The signs you see are a good indication of what their body is saying. If someone is interested in what you say, they won't let distractions get in the way. If they are bored, chances are their body language will tell you that, as they show their distraction in yawns, impatience to hear the last of what you have to say, or the very fact that they are restless.
*Signs of over enthusiasm.
Have you ever come into contact with someone who listens in awe to every detail you tell them. They agree with everything, and their smiles are too forced and nervous. People like this give the body language which says they are overly anxious. This could be for any number of reasons, though when you see body language of this nature, beware. If they show too much enthusiasm in their movements towards you, or faun on every word you say, this gives an indication of being too desperate to make something from the situation which may not be there. People who are nervous may bite their nails or use their hand to brush their hair away from their face. They may even come over as clumsy.
*Signs of danger.
Danger signs are also seen quite clearly with body language. For example, do they come too close? Do they touch you before really knowing you. People who are touchy or who move too close to you too quickly may be the wrong person to start a relationship with. These are pushy people who don't like taking No for an answer. The body language is sometimes overly confident. Their head is held a little too high, and you feel slightly oppressed by them.
*Signs of frivolity.
