Movie reviews: My Bollywood Bride

Alex is a struggling writer who meets Reena by accident in LA and they have a whirlwind romance but within a few days she disappears leaving him feeling he must track her down at all costs. All he has is the name of the town in India where she's from and not even her surname. Alex goes to Mumbai to find her not knowing that she's a top Bollywood actress and getting even close to her is almost impossible. On top of that she's now engaged to Bollywood's top director and her mother wants to make sure it stays that way.

Does Reena care for Alex or was their romance just a holiday fling for her? Will Alex be able to prove to Reena that he's the one she should be with?

My Bollywood Bride is not a Bollywood movie even though in some respects it could be considered one with the fairly weak storyline as Bollywood has its fair share of duds. The dialogue throughout the film is in English with very few scenes where Hindi language is spoken.

Before I watched this film I had no preconceived ideas about what to expect. I knew it starred Jason Lewis as Alex who I'd seen in Sex & The City as Samantha's partner and in also in Charmed briefly as Phoebe's boyfriend and then short-lived husband. I'd not seen Kashmera Shah (who plays Reena) in a film that I know of and just thought it would be a way to while away an hour or so of my time. Having read In this fish out of water romantic comedy, Jason Lewis finds sex in a totally different city! on the cover of the DVD I was curious to see how the story progressed. What's funniest about the whole film is that that particular quote is so very untrue as Jason Lewis does NOT find sex in a totally different city; there is no sex going on in this film whatsoever!

Jason Lewis as an actor is generally quite average I guess. He's not exactly A list in Hollywood. In this film he did most of the hard work I think and kudos to him for managing to keep me watching the film till the end. Not that his acting skills were really any great shakes but he was convincing enough in his role (even though I was constantly willing his character to forget about the girl and go back to the US)!

Kashmera Shah has done a handful of films that I've heard of (but not seen) but she's no big name in Bollywood and having cast her as Bollywood's supposed hottest heroine was not the best idea the director had! She's supposed to be playing someone who's about 27 or 28, she was 35 or so when she made this film and to be honest she looked
